ANGLICAN PARISH OF STAYNER/WASAGA BEACH

CLERGY

RECTOR'S WELCOME

Greetings in Christ,

It is a joy to introduce the wonderful Parish family of Anglicans in Stayner and Wasaga Beach. We are a diverse group of friends in a two point parish, seeking to discover and follow Christ's guidance in worship and service in the church family and wider community.

The Good Shepherd in Stayner has celebrated their 137th anniversary as a congregation. Stayner (pop. 3500) is a rural community experiencing growth as one of the gateway towns to the year round tourist and retirement areas of Wasaga Beach and Collingwood. It is a quiet yet active multi-generational town and our congregation reflects that same level of activity. Some of our interests in ministry include Youth for Christ, A.C.W., South American medical mission trips, Christmas Outreach and Food Bank support and a wonderful choir that has recently produced two CD's. Our hall is used by other non-profit groups including the local Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and the Clearview Community Theatre Group.

The Prince of Peace in Wasaga Beach has celebrated their 56th anniversary as a congregation. Wasaga Beach (pop. 16,000) is a rapidly growing winter and summer tourist, retirement and family town with a world famous sand beach. The town is built along the length of the beach and in some ways, is trying to catch up to its rapid growth in recent years. Our congregation is a mixture of life long residents and brand new members moving into retirement and out of the Toronto-Brampton area. Some of our interests in ministry include helping run our local Food Bank, supporting parishioners' mission ventures into Africa and the Philippines, a Sharing and Caring Women's Group, and a contemporary worship group called 'Open Heaven'. Our hall is used by the local Sparks, Brownies and guides and the A.A. group at the Beach.

Both congregations share in several other ministries including Alpha, Parish Nursing, Natural Church Development, a Parish Lectionary Study, a Men's Breakfast Group, Hospital Visitation and involvement in the healing prayer ministry.

The Good Shepherd 11:00 am service is a fairly traditional service alternating BCP Morning Prayer and BAS Holy Communion with a growing blend of contemporary music. We have an active Sunday School called 'The Tree House Club' and 12 of our children were baptized this past summer.

Our Sunday service at the Prince of Peace at 8:00 am is a traditional BAS, said, Holy Communion and our 9:00 am service is usually a contemporary BAS Holy Communion with Opening Praise until 9:15 am and an active Sunday School. Once a month on Saturday at 7:00 pm we host a non-denominational renewal service.

Early in 2008, the Parish hosted an Alpha marriage Course, and will be starting monthly house groups studying the Anglican Agenda Series, and healing services with the Order of St. Luke.

As the priest in this Parish for over 12 years and as a member of Anglican Essentials Canada, I have sought a wide base of unity in the local ministerial for outreach to our area, an orthodox response to Biblical revelation and local and international mission support. Our Parish is part of a vital expression of the Body of Christ in the north-west corner of the Diocese of Toronto.

Welcome to our website, courtesy of our web master - Lay Reader, Choir Director and Parish Secretary, Grenville Bray and welcome to this wonderful Christ-centered Parish.

Yours in Christ,

The Reverend Jim Seagram
Incumbent of the Parish of Stayner - Wasaga Beach
